ATTACKS NEAR CZERNOWITZ REPULSED
AMSTERDAM, 16th June. An- Austrian official communique states : We repulsed the Russian attacks north of Czemowitz, and frustrated their attempts to cross the Pruth.
There was extremely bitter fighting at Wisniowczyk, north of Buczacz. The enemy is employing new -divisions, and attempting to .force the crossing of the Stochod River, in the Styr sector. . ■ x
HSGH COTVISVIISSIONER'S REPORT.
The- High Commissioner reports : — . . LONDON, 16th June, 12.45 a.m. An official message from Potrograd states : On the Dwina front, southwest of Lake Narotch, the enemy's artillery was active, and carried ont a strong bombardment in many places. The enemy subsequent attempts to leave the trenches were repulsed everywhere.
In the Baranoviticlii region we took some trenches, but retreated to our former position.
General BrusilofFs troops continued to advance yesterday. On. several sections of the front we again captured prisoners and military supplies. The onemy in places counter-attacked.
Supplementary reports give more precise calculations of. the captures, as follows :—Ono General, three regimental commanders, 2467 officers, five doctors, 150..000 men, 165 guns, 266 machine guns, and 131 bomb-throwers.
