INCREASED BIRTH-RATE
LATEST VITAL STATISTICS,
A record number of births was registered in AA'ellington during the month ending to-day, viz., 232, as compared with. 196 in May of last year. • -There were also eighteen more marriages than in the corresponding month of 1915, while deaths decreased by three. More births, deaths, and marriages, have been registered in AVellington since the beginning of the year than was the case in the first five months of last year. Following are the details :— FOR THE PAST FIVE MONTHS. 1916. 1915. Births 990 905 •- Deaths 390 341 Marriages - 533 447 Marriages before the Registrar—l 46, as compared with 116 in the' first five months' of last year. FOR THE MONTH. 1916. 1915. Births 232 196 Deaths . . ... 78 81 Marriages 92 74 Marriages before the Registrar--27, or seven more than in May of last year.
