BRUTAL ASSAULT
SOLDIER ATTACKS CRIPPLE,
"You are a despicable cur and a coward/ remarked Mr. D. G-. A. Cooper, S.M., to John Sheahan, a member of the Expeditionary Forces, who pleaded guilty in thp Magistrate's Court this morning to assaulting Otto Brunah. The assault took place early this morning, the accused attacking Brunah, who has only one leg, without any apparent reason. Inspector Hendrey stated that the accused had asked Brunah, who is a newsvendor, a question and had received a civil reply. Shea-han thereupon attacked Brunah in a brutal manner, beating him with his crutch until it was broken. The a-ccused was still belabouring the unfortunate man with the crutch when the constable arrived. The injuries were of such a nature as to necessitate medical, attention. The only thing to account for such an unusual assault was that tho accused had been drinking heavily.
The Magistrate, severely admonished Sheahan and imposed a fine of £5, in default two months' imprisonment.
