At that date the fund had the sum of £2500 on fixed deposit, and ai credit balance at the bank of £15 2s"lod. The total receipts since the, presentation, of the previous statement were £425 11s. Since the balance-sheet was audited £500 had been transferred to current account, which, was now in credit to the amount of £40?. The Mayor stated that sinca the outbreak of war they had had 87 recipients more or less continuously on their books. At present they had 16. The altered position had been brought1 about mainly through Handing over to the War Relief Association the cases of dependents of men who had enlisted. Previously the Mayor's Distress Fond had done a great deal in the way of rendering temporary assistance to 'the dependents of men. who had enlisted until they received their pay. Now that work was undertaken by the War Relief Association. The work of the War Distress Fund had been very helpful, and had been much appreciated. No complaints had been received either as to the as-, sistn-nce given, or the method of giving. The assistance gives, now is chiefly, in the form of rent.
