LONDON, 29th May. The Turks report that Lieutenant Firman, of the Royal Navy, commanding the Kut relief food ship, was amongst the killed. It was a forlorn hope, but Lieutenant Firman, the commander of the Tigris gunboat, cheerfully volunteered to make the attempt.
[One of .the last incidents in the endeavour to relieve General Townshend's garrison at Kut-el-Amara was the despatch of a ship full of stores. The vessel grounded and failed to set through.] . S
