GENERAL SMUTS'S PROGRESS IN
THE NORTH.

LONDON, 29th May. Official. — Colonel Northey's British forces on the 25th advanced twenty miles into German territory on the whole front between Lake Nyasea and Lake Tanganyika, compelling the enemy to retire towards New Langenburg. The South African and Nyassaland troops did excellent work bridging and crossing the Songwe River at night.
General Smuts's column occupied the railway station at Same* Another column descended the Pangani River to Lesara, the enemy withdrawing southwards.
