RECRUITING APPEAL

OPEN-AIR MEETING,

An open-air recruiting meeting was held last evening at the corner of Manners and Boulcott street. Addresses were delivered by Messrs. R. A. Wright, M.P., A. Jolly, '_.■ W. Manton, and Sergeant-Major Dent. In the course of his ( remarks, Mr. Wright said our enemies described last week as England's " black week," but past history showed that reverses only made Great Britain put more " punch into the fight." and that would be the case now There had/been an improvement in recruiting in Wellington. We were only a few short in the 15th Reinforcements and 46 in the 16th. We were, he said, going to make up those shortages. .Vigorous appeals were made by the other speakers.
