12th REINFORCEMENTS

INTEREST IN CYCLISTS AND

MAORIS,

Splendid weather prevailed this afternoon for the march of the balance of the 12th Reinforcements, about 1400 strong, through the city. There was a general display of bunting in honour of the occasion, and the route chosen was well lined with spectators, who gave the men an excellent reception. Special interest was taken in the Cyclist Company, as being the latest of the new units to be raised by New Zealand, and also in the Maoris, of whom there were 72 on parade.

Major C. 11. D. Evans, Cyclist Company, was in command. The head of the column passed Government Buildings, Lambton-quay, at.3 p.m., the order of march ' being as follows:—Mounted Rifles; Artillery; New Zealand Cycle Company; Divisional Signal Company ; Infantry Brigade : J Company; Rifle Brigade : F Company, G Company, H Company; Maori Details; Divisional Train; Medical Corps ; Veterinary Corps.

The dress was the service dress, and greatcoats were worn en bandolier. The route followed was via Bunny-street, Lambton-quay, Willis-street, Mannersstreet, . Lower Cuba-street,. Jervoisquay; and Waterloo-quay. Seven bands, playing, patriotic airs, were distributed throughout the length of the column. The bands taking part were :—Patriotic Societies' Band, New Zealand Natives' Association Band, Featherston Camp Band,*.. sth Regiment (W.R.) Band, Trentham Camp Band, Wellington Pipers' Band, and Featherston Trumpet 'Band. ""
