Dr. E. W. Sharman, of Auckland, who has been in charge of the medical services at the Rangiotu Camp for some time past, has been appointed principal medical officer of a transport. The rank of major has been conferred upon him.

Information has been received in Wellington that Lieut,.-Col. J. Gethin Hughes. D.5.0., C.M.G. (son-in-law of Mr. Robert O'Connor, of Tlie Terrace), is expected ,to return to New Zealand about the end of next month. Colonel Hughes went away as staff" officer to Major-General Sir Alex. Godley, • Main Body, and was afterwards placed in command of the Canterbury Battalion. He was invalided to England, and only recently came out of hospital there after four months' treatment.
