This ten-guinea trophy was presented by the well-known Thorndon ■ firm in 1897, and has just been handed back by the member who won it outright in 1903. The names engraved on it are as follow: W. Brown 1902, R. J. Barnes 1899 and 1901, and F. K. Kelling. 1898, 1900, and 1903. It was stated at the meeting that the most meritorious wins were those of the club champion, Mr. Barnes, he having been the only player on the scratch mark. During the six years that the trophy was fought for he conceded odds to all his opponents, the odds varying from pawn and move to queen.

The meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to last year's officebearers.
