The Australian files to hand this week publish the full statement recently'issued by the Commonwealth authorities, showing the part the big island continent has taken in the war. The Defence Depaitment up to 14th February, 1916, sent 150,043 troops oversea on active service, as shown in the following table: —

I In addition to these units 60,107 troops were on Ist March, 1916, in camps of training throughout Australia, in preparation for despatch to the. front, so : that on Ist March, 210,150 troops had : been raised in the Commonwealth. Victoria had to last week enrolled more than 100,000 men. for service. The enlistments in this State up to the end of last year totalled between 80.000 and 90,000. This total has been increased by the addition of 16,498 men recruited to date this year. On only two occasions have the weekly enrolments fallen below the 1000 mark. High-water mark was reached/in the first week in February, when/2032 men were accepted as fit. The lowest weekly total was 826, in January. Since the'beginning of'the year recruits have been attested at an average rate of 1500 a. week. The figures for last week were 2091 offered, 1270 accepted. On Saturday 298 recruits offered, and 177.'were accepted.
