Mr. W Beach Thomas writes from General Headquarters in France: "I have spoken to German prisoners taken, at St. Eloi. Some were just dug out of the earthquake mess, and were wearing the green coats of the original Jager battalions. They were dirty and unshaven, but in fighting fettle. They wora extemporised ca.ps or new metal helmets. They wore fine men, well clad and booted, smiling, happy, with an unprejudiced view of tho war. They thought the war would bo over this year, and that the side wifcb the most guns and men would win.
