ON THE RIGA FRONT
GERMANS DEFINITELY ASSUMING THE DEFENSIVE

The Times correspondent at 'Petrogrstd states that the Germans on the Riga front are definitely assuming the defensive. They have established swonglyfortified positions, protected by four lines of wire entanglements. A continual stream ol reinforcements is flowing in. The whole of the Russian front is quiet- in view of Balkan developments. "Experts," says the correspondent, "regard the southern part oi our line as the most important, owing to the enemy's concertration."
