RED CROSS NEEDS
m Red Cross needs will be plainly put before the public at a meeting to be called by the Mayor shortly. This is in response to a request made by the Governor. It is hoped to make a big collection of money for Red Cross work on 21st October, and all will be asked to help in gifts, from pennies to bank notes and cheques. The Navy League, out of deference to the Mayor, has decided to postpone its demonstration at the Town Hall until November.
Mr. A. E. Waite. late Inspector of Factories at Oamaru. is in Wellington, under special instructions, prior to being transferred on promotion to Dunedin. Mr. Leon Cohen, who recently underwent _an operation in the Bowen-street Hospital, expects to bo about again i shortly.
