ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

TARANAKI-STREET WESLEY SUNDAY SCHOOL. In connection with the seventy-fourth anniversary celebrations 'of the Wesley Church Sunday School (Taranaki-street) a tea and entertainment were held in the church buildings last evening, and proved most successful. About 400 children and adults sat down to tea in the schoolroomj while the entertainment, at which Mr. W. H. Bennett presided, was also largely attended. The annual report, whicli was read by the retiring secretary, stated that the past year had been rich in blessing, and renewed activity by officers and teachers, with the result that the interest of the scholars had been well maintained. They had lost several from the ranks of workers, but others had come forward to fill the vacancies. The work in the beginners' and primary departments had progressed smoothly. During the year they were twice visited by the Rev. A. E. Hunt, who delivered missionary addresses. They continued to sustain a deep interest in Home and Foreign Mission work, not only by devoting the whole of the money collected— £42 2s lOd — to the fund, but by missionary competition and addresses. The report stressed the importance of keeping alive the social side of the school, while reference was also made to the successful working of various other departments. The number on the Sunday school roll was 445, there being 34 teachers and 26 primary helpers. The election of officers had resulted as follows : — Superintendent, Mr. G. H. Barratt; secretary, Mr. Cyril Fiebig; assistant secretaries, Messrs. B. Gardiner and Ernest Upton ; missionary secretary, Mr. W. B. Strong ; treasurer, Mr. W. A. Features of the entertainment were the tableaux representations, which were as follow : — "Guardian Angels," "Garden of Lilies,"' "The Ten Virgins," "Presentation of Samuel in the Temple," "The Call of Samuel," "Jacob's Dream," and "Finding of Moses."
