A GREAT PROJECT

WILL OF THOMAS CAWTHRON, OF NELSON. (»T TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON, 12th October. By the will of the late Thomas Cawthron the bulk of the estate is devised for the prosecution, of the great project which the testator evidently had in view for many years. After making provision for a number of annuities and legacies to relatives, all other real and personal property is bequeathed to the Bishop of Nelson, the Mayor of Nelson, the chairman of Waimea County Council, and members of the House of Representatives &nd Legislative Council for the City of Nelson and Waimea electorates, the chairman of Nelson Harbour Board, and William Rout, the jounger, of Nelson, all in trust, and who are all also to be executors of, for the purchase of land and the erection and maintenance of an industrial and technical school, institute, and museum, to be called the " Cawthron Institute." It is understood that the testator contemplated an institution on somewhat similar lines to the scientific and research institutes in Europe, and covering a wide range of activity bearing upon industry and commerce. The value of the estate is not yet accurately known, but it is believed to be in the neighbourhood of a quarter of a million sterling. The will was executed in London in 1902.
