CALL TO ARMS

WELLINGTON'S RESPONSE AN IMPROVEMENT RECORDED. Since the march of the 7th Reinforcements and Rifle Battalions through the city streets on* Saturday last and the opening of the Town Hall office, recruiting in Wellington has been somewhat better. This is shown in. the number' of recruits who have enlisted day by, day since the Ist inst. The total registrations each day are as under :—: — October 1 18 October 2 22 l October 4 45 October 5 23 October 6 22 October 7 41 ' October 8 ..-, ... 11 October 9 6 October 11 95 October 12 12 This morning ... .. 41 , Total 336 This is regarded as rather encouraging, and it is hoped that this rate of enlistment will be continued for some considerable time to come, especially in view of the speeding up and increasing of the Reinforcement drafts. " I will not write of what I saw or of the happenings," Bays Pte. C Millar (wounded in the last big battle on Gallipoli), in a letter to his mother. ' ' It would only bring back 6ad memories to me, and tend to upset you. I have seen the horrors of war and failed to find the glory; and we all go on fighting and praying for peace, and hope all at home do the same, as this business is beginning to get on our nerve*-. " It is probable that while he is in Wellington, Mr. John H. Humphreys, the secretary of the British Proportional Representation Society, will deliver a lecture. At 1.30 p.m. to-morrow Messrs. C. W. Price and Co. will sell household furniture, contents of 6ix rooms, at No. 124, Molesworth-street ; and at 1.30 p.m. Friday, iron and timber at Hutson's yard, corner of Wallace and Rolleston streets.
