♦— — Mr. C. M. Luke, president of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce, is on a visit to Christchurch. Mr. F. Dobson, of the Clarendon' Hotel, was taken seriously ill on Monday last. To-day, his condition shows a slight change for the better. Mr. A. F. Roberts, of Murray, Roberts and Co., has been elected chairman of the Wellington Woolbrokers' Association for the ensuing year. Mr. *H. P. Brown, who has been engaged for some time past in iffie work of indexing Hansard, has been appointed to a permanent position on the staff. Before leaving Wellington, Trooper Little, of the 7th Mounted Reinforcements, Fon of Mr. Walter Little (Takapau) was promoted to the rank of corporal. Messrs. W. E. Redstone and F. Chinchen have been appointed Taranakistreet Church circuit representatives at the Synod to be held in November next. v Mr. P. M. Goldsmith, of Levin, has been appointed clerk of the Horowhenua County Council. Mr. Verry, clerk of the Kiwitea County Council, was previously selected, but decided to remain where he is. Mr. J. H. Humphreys, secretary of the Proportional Representation Society, of which Earl Grey is president, is in Wellington. He has been touring Australia in the interests of the society, and will spend a month in New Zealand. Senior-Sergeant Dart, at one time in charge of the Police Probationary Depot in Wellington, was at Dunedin on Saturday last admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Sim, on the motion of Mr. W. C. MaeGregor, X.CMr Oracroft- Wilson, who is well known in the Hufct district, where he practised as a solicitor for some years, and who has lately been following his profession in Auckland, has received a commission in the artillery. He is proceeding to Trentham at once to join the forces. The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday afternoon of Mr. T. Cole, of the firm of Cole and Springer, undertakers, aged seventy years. He was Mayor of Dunedin in 1910, and ati-the time of his death was a member of the City Council, He was Mayor of Caversham on two occasions. Death Was due to apoplexy. Mr. J. Nash, who has been in charge of the Police Force at R aro tonga for the past two years, returned to New Zealand or Thursday last by the R.M.S. Moana. Prior to his departure from the island Mr. Nash was presented by the residents, amongst whom he was extremely popular, with an address and purse of sovereigns.
