BOOTMAKING INDUSTRY
♦ — Proposals for a new award for the bootmaking industry in the Wellington Industrial District were considered at a meeting of the Conciliation Council yesterday afternoon, Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, presiding. The claims by the Operative Bootmakers' Union were, briefly, for a 44-hour week and a. minimum wage for men of Is 6d per hour, and for women 35s per week on an hourly basis, waxed thread machinists to be paid £2 5s per week. The assessors were : For the union, Messrs. P. Vinnell, W. Bosher, and J. Hutchison ; for the employers, Messrs. J. A. Frostiek, B. Mapplebeck, and J. B. Frame. The proposals were considered in committee, and after some discussion the council adjourned
