Before the Commodities Commission a representative of the produce merchants intimated that they intended to ask for the proclaimed prices for chaff and hay to be lifted in order to allow of the disposal of three thousand tons of New Zealand straw and chaff, which were imported under an assurance from the Government that no opposition would be offered to merchants placing it on the market. Soon afterwards the Commission recommended a reduction in the price of chaff, and the holders of the New Zealand chaff objected, as there was a clear understanding from the Government that there would be no interference with their importation.
