ASHBURTON DELAYED Owing to the big landslide in the Panama Canal, and the consequent blocking of Gaillard Cut (Culebni Cut), the Ashburton, which is under charter to the -New Zealand Shipping Company, and is bringing a general cargo from Montreal, has been considerably delayed. She has been compelled to take the alternative route, and will now call at Australian ports before coming on to New Zealand. The Ashburton was originally expected in Auckland about the 14th November, but mil not now reach the northern port until about the middle of December THE WAIRAU BAR. For some tfme past the Wairau bar has been causing a good deal of inconvenience to the boats regularly engaged in the Wellington-Blen-heim run, but as a result of the opening made through the Boulder Bank, there has been a marked acceleration of the current, this having the effect of shifting the silt and causing the river to deepen. The river can now be navigated by the port steamers as far as the ferry bridge MAITAI EXPECTED THIS EVENING Advice by wireless states that the Maitai is now expected to arrive in port from Sydney at about 6 o'clock this evening. The vessel is timed to leave Wellington for San Francisco, via Rarotonga and Papeete, at 3 p.m. to-morrow KIA ORA WITH MAILS The Shaw-Savill steamer Kia Ora, which is taking up the mail running of the Corinthic, left London on the Bth October for New Zealand ports. She is due at Auckland on the 23rd November, and at Wellington about seven days later. The vessel, which is not bringing any passengers, will proceed from here to Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Timaru DORSET AND HURUNUI DEPART There were two sailings for London yesterday, namely, the Dorset and HuTunui.
