Mr. Harold Beauchamp has received news that his only son, Leslie Heron Beauchamp, was accidentally killed in France last Thursday. He held a commission in the Bth Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment, and had only recently gone to France after serving eight months in training in different parts of England. Lieutenant Beauchamp was a native of Wellington, twenty-one years of age. and was educated at the Waitaki High School. Before he left Wellington for London by the Indrabarah last Christmas Eve he was in the office of Messrs. W. M. Bannatyne and Co. He was a very popular young man, and Ins relatives will have general sympathy in their bereavement. Three officers of the original Maori Contingent returned by the Mooraki from the Dardanelles last evening. They were Capt. Roger Dansey (Dunedin), Lieut. Hiroti To Uru (Wanganui). and Lieut. Hetct Thomas (Te*Kuiti). When seen by a newspaper lepresentative, Capt. Dansey stated that as he and hi« fellow officers had returned to New Zealand under instructions for special duty, he could not give any information concerning the great showing the Maori Contingent had made at Gallipoli. Massey said that the Bank of New Zealand had taken on quite * number of men to fill the places oi those who had enlisted. He also understood that in some cases ■women were being employed. On Thursday they will sell on the promises, No. 49, Roxburgh-street, the contents of a residence. At 1.30 p.m. to-morrow Messrs. C. W. Price and Co. will sell furniture and effects at No. 34, May-street.
