THE VETERANS HOME
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual general meeting of the Board of Governors of the Veterans' Home, Auckland, waa held in the Cabinet Room, Government Buildings, yesterday. His Excellency the Governor presided. The annual report and balancesheet for the year ended 30th June, 1915, were read and adopted. The capital fund has during the past year inoerased from £10,140 to £10,440. For the first tune since the inception of the home no assistance has been received from any source outside the annual subscriptions, but this is only what could be expected seeing that the proceeds of all entertainments, are going to the patrioitc funds. Thirty-nine veterans are now being maintained in the home. There are three of the original members of the home remaining. Among and in possession of the resident veterans are three Crimean medals, three Turkish, four Indian Mutiny, one Afghan, one Kandahar star, one Khedive star, and twenty-eight New Zealand medals. Building repairs and renovations have been carried out, and the drainage of the home is satisfactory ; the cost of the work done was £144. His Excellency the Governor was reelected president, the Hon. Edwin Mitchelson was re-elected hon. treasuerr, and Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., was reelected hon. secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Alfred Kidd and the Auckland Committee, also to the chaplains, medical and dental officials, auditor, and legal adviser, who have given their services gratuitously for the benefit of the institution, and the board noted with pleasure the good work done by the superintendent (Major Carpenter) and his staff.
