NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS

Mr. L. M. Isitt enquired in the House of Representatives to-day what steps the Public Health Department was taking to prevent the spread of contagious disease. The Minister (Hon. G. W. Russell) replied that a Bill to deal with the matter had been prepared by his predecessor, but owing to tho circumstances that had arisen had not been proceeded with. An important phase had arisen with the return of the soldiers from the East, but he was pleased to say that it had been possible to release a number of these, as the disease was not so serious and pronounced as was anticipated might come from Eastern countries. All the necessary precautions would be taken to prevent the disease from getting a footing in New Zealand, and if legislation was brought down it would be on lines that would be as applicable to men as to women. (Hear, hear.)
