The Daily Telegraph's correspondent with the Russian south-western headquarters states that the Russians opened a strong simultaneous attack on Thursday night, and advanced from three to three and a-half miles on the front from the river Styr to Garaimovka, every where capturing the first and second positions of the enemy. Despite the resistance of large Austro-German forces, the Russians pierced the front Karpelovka-Mochanitza-Nosovitch. AUSTRIAN FIRST LINE DESTROYED ON BESSARABIAN FRONTIER. • ZURICH, 11th October. The Lausanne Gazette states that the Russians, after ten hours' incessant bombardment, destroyed the Austrian first line trenches on the Bessarabian front. OFFICIAL REPORTS. PETROGRAD, 11th October. A communique states : There was an extremely desperate all-day fight at - Prochiline and Garbunowka. The latter was taken and retaken several times, but we finally abandoned the town. Our scouts northward of Likhovitchi made a night reconnaissance and penetrated the enemy's trenches. They bayoneted two hundred, and took prisoner 456. , The enemy near Czartorysk crossed to the right bank of the Styr. The enemy's counter-attack southeastwardof Malacheff was repulsed. Our cavalry routed the enemy eastward of Bucozacz, in Bukowina. The High Commissioner states :—: — LONDON, 11th October, 5.30 a.m. Petrograd reports that the Nitzgal railway station was bombed by a German aeroplane. In the region north of lihovitcha, our infantry pierced the enemy's trenches, bayonetting 200 and capturing 453 men and three officers. AMSTERDAM, 11th October. An Austrian communique states :—: — The Russians continued fruitless attacks in East Galicia. Some regiments lost half their effectives in the last few days. The enemy was also repulsed on the Strypa front.
