Cousins joined the Paloona yesterday as fourth engineer With a load of coal the turret-decked collier Koromiko is expected to get away from Newcastle to-morrow for Wellington According *to the Auckland Herald, considerable difficulty was experienced by the Union Steam Ship Company in obtaining a stokehold crew for the steamer Moura, which sailed for Newcastle on Friday last. The voyage will occupy uot more than a week, and on a basis of the legal wage of "£lO per month for trimmers and £8 per month for firemen, the company would have to pay £2 10s and £2 for the voyage respectively. However, as men were hard to obtain, the company offered £12 10s for the voyage and a passage back to New Zealand for both trimmers and firemen. The men would not accept these conditions, and demanded £15 for the voyage. Sufficient men were, however, secured later, and the vessel was enabled to sail ' After having been held up in Wellington owing to the shortage of seamen, the Karu got away for Greymouth at 11 o'clock yesterday morning. The collier Komata, which has been held up for similar reasons, also left for the West Coast yesterday morning In continuance of her voyage from London to Wellington, the Star of Australia left Sydney on Saturday for Auckland. After calling at Napier on the way down the coast the vessel should arrive here about the 20th October
