WEATHER AND CROPS
Though the weather has been ideal locally, changeable and showery conditions have predominated in other parts of the Dominion, and heavy rain has continued in the Northern districts. Much rain has fallen in these district lately. General conditions, however, have been improving, and the only place reporting rain this morning was Gisborne. Winds have been variable, and generally moderate. The forecast is for warm and humid conditions, with increasing haze and cloudiness. There are indications for stormy weather on or about Thursday, specially affecting the South Island. The rainfall during the past day or two, though not heavy, has been general throughout the district (states the Hawkes Bay Herald of Saturday). Farmers are rejoicing over the abundance of feed, and it is anticipated that the fat lambs "off the mother" will greatly exceed the average for years past. The minature drought we have been experiencing in this district lately, broke on Thursday night, when a gentle, warm rain commenced to fall (says the Waipawa correspondent of the Napier Telegraph). This will do an immense amount of good to the pastures, which were getting rather dry.
