TOGOLAND.
Rev. J. H. Harris, in the Nineteenth Century, quotes this remarkable letter from a native of Togoland relieved by the British occupation of that German colony : — " 'The Lord has hearkened unto our cry and we are for ever saved from the clutches of the German Eagle. Do fight for us that Togoland may never be given back to the Germans. Where shall we be, we who hate the Germans so much? Let their coming back be impossible . . . We are in the hands of the British Government, let us remain where we are. . . .' "Togoland," says Mr. Hariis. "ha& bpen under a German administration since 1884, and lias been subjected to 'vigorous' development wljch has resulted in a long series of punitive expeditions so costly to human life tbat, according to the Gold Ccast Leader, 'The German Secretary of Stats for_lJie Colonies has admitted that from IPOo to IQX3 IQS.COO mii\« tiavr b«ea l*iljed »a expeditions against them.'
