PRICE OF BUTTER
■* The good rains of the past three days have been fairly general, and should remove any anxiety on the part of dairy farmers as to the shortage of feed for some time to come. Possibly the local consumer may reap the benefit in a reduction in the price of butter. The retail price of usual standard brands of best quality butter, with two exceptions, is still Is 6d. The Defiance brand, however, is at Is 5d per lb, to which it was reduced from Is 7d per lb on 28th August, the then all-round price of standard brands of butter in this market, and was the first to be sold at that figure.
Some fine selections are included in the Tramways Band Concert to be given at His Majesty's Theatre on Sunday evening. Songs will be rendered by Mr. Herbert, F. Wood and Mr. William Goudie, and Mr. J. Culford Bell is set down for a dramatic recital. The train arrangements for the Mabterton Race Meeting are advertised in this issue. The Natives' Association Band will play a programme of music at Newtown Park to-morrow afternoon.
