THE MARKETS

Potatoes are again being exported to Australia, says the weekly produce report issued by the New* Zealand Fanners' Co-operative Distributing Company, and this, coming as it does at the end of the season and after a large export trade has been carried on for some months, has sharply advanced values. The market in the south is excited, and values are doubtful for a day or two. Good seed lines are still available. Wheat is dull of sale, but oats are a little brighter. Pollard and bran have advanced, doubtless consequent on the artificial feeding of stock in dry Southern areas. Chaff is unaltered. Good quality lines are in fair demand, and the low prices quoted mostly represent inferior quality. The trade in rape, turnips, etc., is brisk. The selling price for porkers keeps up Veil, and the demand is decidedly good. Owing to larger quantities of spring cabbage arriving from Hutt -and country districts, lower values are ruling snee last report. High prices are ruling for choice cauliflowers, which are in short supply. Choice lettuce meet ready sale at satisfactory "prices. Good enquiry for swedes, which are selling at last week's rates. Paisnips remain dull of sale. Choice table carrots are selling freely, and white turnips meet good demand. Celery, spring onions, and leeks are realising satisfactory prices. The demand for rhubarb is good, and satisfactory prices are ruling. Nelson green peas have been sold during the week.
