[Colonel Ernest Townshend Wallack was appointed to be State Commandant in Victoria only a few moni&s ago, his predecessor having been sent to succeed the late General Bridges. He was previously District Commandant in New South Wales, and A.D.C. to the Go-vernor-General. He served in the South African War, was Acting- Commandant in Tasmania 1904-5, Commandant in South Australia 1905-6, and afterwards Adjutant-General a,nd a member of the Commonwealth Military Board.
