The teachers and scholars of the Thorndon Methodist Sunday School assembled in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening last to show in concrete form^ their appreciation of the good service rendered to the school for over thirty years by Mr. T. Sims, who has retired from the superintendency owing to need of rest The presentation, which took the form of an oil painting nature study in the Nelson district, was made by Mr J. Boyd, in the unavoidable absence of Rev. G. S. Cook. Mr Boyd, in making the presentation on behalf of the Sunday School staff, and members of the young men"s and young women's Bible classes, eulogised the good service rendered by Mr. Sims, and conveyed the good wishes of all to both Mr. and Mrs. Sims. The earlier part of the evening was devoted to amusing the scholars, who took an enjoyable part in games, recitations, and other items. The pj-opripVirs of Banks' College are offering five t. .iolarships. tenable in any Department,^.for competition among the children of soldiers. They have also decided to give free tuition to incapacitated soldiers who desire to take up clerical or professional work. Application forms may bo obtained from the director, Mr. 11.
