COURT-MARTIAL IN AUCKLAND
TWO MAORIS TO BE CHARGED WITH DESERTION. (tT,HLEGRAPH— «USSS iSSOOATMH.) AUCKLAND, 7th October. It is not often that v court-martial takes place in Auckland, but on Tuesday next a military tribunal will sit at Narrow Neck. Two Maori soldiers, members of the 2nd Reinforcements, will be charged with desertion One is a-ueged to have deserted while on leave, and the other is stated to have escaped from the ship. The proceedings will be of more than, ordinary interest, since an important witness will be a Maori occupying- a, high position, vrho is alleged to have made utterances calculated to actuate men in their desertion. The proceedings will be open.
