SITTING OF S.M. COURT AT LOWER HUTT

The monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court, held this morning, ;was presided over by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Messrs. J. Cudby and J. jWilkin were also on the Bench. For allowing stock to wander, the fol■lowing were dealt with as under: — Earl Skinner and W. Cottle, fined 10s, with ,7s costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Thomas Burt (three charges) was fined 10s in each case, with 7s costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. G. ,Wcotton, P. Buick, N. Berg, F. Meylick, Edward Hayes, W. Randall, E. J. Bell, ancTWilliam Strand, were each fined £s, with the usual costs and alternative. Several cyclists were charged with siding on the footpath, contrary to the iborough bylaws. The offenders were dealt with as under: — Rupert Lindsay, Charles Moor, Walter Barney, Jesse iWalsham, C. J. Cullen, George Thompson, Victor Lusty, and Edward Hayes jwere each mulcted in a penalty of ss, ,with the usual costs ; while three youths — Leo Collins, Percy Bowers, and RichiaTd Bowers — were each fined ss, without costs. Territorials who were charged with failing to fulfil their obligations were •dealt with as follow : — Archibald Garner ■was fined £3, in default 14 days' military detention. Harman Fitzmaurice, an old offender, was penalised in the sum of £2, the alternative being fixed at seven days' military detention. In the case of Anthony Conroy a fine of 10s, with the usual alternative, was imposed; while Harry John Barlan was fined 20s, in default three days' detention. Roland fIVI. In a judgment summons case, Gadsby Bros. v. Peter Dixon, a claim for £15 Os Id, defendant was ordered to pay the amount on or before 20th instant, in default undergo fifteen days in gaol.
