CHURCH ANNIVERSARY
KENT-TERRACE PRESBYTERIAN. Anniversary celebrations in connection with the Kent-terrace Presbyterian Church were concluded in the schoolroom last evening with a conversazione, the Rev. Dr. J. Kennedy Elliott presiding over a large attendance of church members' and friends. Short addresses were given by the chairman, the Rev. Dr. Erwin, of Christchurch, and the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C. The Rev. Dr. Elliott referred to the good work that had been carried out in connection with the church during the past year, but pointed out that there had been a slight failure to realise all that might have been done to advance the work of the church in a further degree. There was a s - still higher goal to reach, and he hoped that the Kentterrace Church would set the standard so high that wherever the members went they would become a great influence for good. In his remarks, the Rev. Dr. Erwin spoke of the special attention now being paid to children, as compared with former years. There "was hardly a, churoh m which there were not special services for children, nowadays, but in bygone years such was "not the case. The Sunday School, however, could not take the place of church services, and the speaker expressed the hope that children would always be brought to church with their parents, and in that way the habit of church going would be formed. Dr. Erwin, in referring to the present great crisis, thought that the seriousness of, the issues at stake were not being fully realised. The lightness with which it was still regarded was to him appalling. During the evening enjoyable items were contributed as follow • — Instrumental items, Misses Dodds, Anderson, and Simpson, and Messrs. Moore, walker, and Anderson j recitations, Misses Scott and M. Fix; song, Mrs. Bath.
