WATERFRONT MATTERS
At a general meeting of the Waterside Workers' Union last evening, Mr F. Curtice presiding, a deputation was set up, to draw the attention of the Harbour Board to certain wool-presses owned by local companies, and which, it was alleged, were paying lower wages and competing unfairly with the board. Correspondence was received from southern unions of waterside workers, -urging Wellington to arrange a conference with the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation. It was decided to request the employers to place notices at various places on the wharves, announcing, as provided for in the industrial agreement, the time at which men will resume work after stoppages »ue to rain or shortage of trucks
