THE KING AND THE WOUNDED.
LONDON, 30th September. The King, addressing wounded men returned from the battle of Loos, at Sheffield, said: "We are proud of the splendid way you have been fighting." FALL IN RECRUITING AUTHORITIES GREATLY CONCERNED. LONDON, 30th September. The War Office telegraphed to the British Recruiting Committee that the falling off in recruiting had caused Lord Kitchener and the War Office the greatest concern. LABOUR & CONSCRIPTION WEALTH MUST BE INCLUDED. (Received October 1, 8?45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Tie Labour Council opposes any form of compulsory service of life, health, or time that does not first of all bring wealth under conscription. The council resolved — " Aa the British Government has not deemed it advisable to introduce conscription, we see no reason for the action of the Universal Service League in advocating its adoption in Australia."
