Wallace (the club's new secretary) had the assistance of Mr F G. Roe, who for many years filled that position, and now nolds the responsible office of treasurer An innovation on the programme was" the inclusion of two trotting ©vents. They were both won by the Wanganui-owned Stone Belden, who in both events was sent^out a short priced favourite. In the Maiden Scurry, ten started : Pall Mall was sent out a good favourite She and Lady Edith were first to show out, the latter leading into the straight. Half-way down the running Pomeroy (Strowan — Pomegranate) took charge, and won. comfortably from Awapuni. In the Levin Hack Handicap only six went to the post. Combustion was favourite. Ally and Innoladdo led to the turn, where Combustion started to im-" prove his position. A hundred yards from home ne challenged Ally, and getting up in the last few strides, won by a head. The winner is one of T. Lloyd's Marton team, and is owned by Mr. 6. Morris, who used to race the hurdler Marton. The Otaki-teained Peronilla, runner-up to Taringamutu at Otaki on Tuesday, carried, more money than the other four starters in the M'Donald Memorial Handicap. She drew No. 1 but played up at the post, knocking Bell off Medallist, and was put on the outside At the end of a furlong she was in front on the rails, and holding her own in the ran home won by a length and a-half, Black Lupin about half a length away A solid pace was set by Immer, Square Deal, and Rene in the Horowhenua Cup. With six furlongs gone Immer was a couple of lengths clear of Square Deal, Rene, t Haumakaka, and Gold Crest next Square Deal caught Immer before the straight was reached. In the straight Master Moutoa,- Tangihou, and Maniaroa joined in, and a slashing finish resulted. Fifty yards from the post Maniaroa drew slightly ahead and passed the post half a length clear Imarose was only a head away, ! with Master Moutoa, Gold Crest, and Rene next Pavlova, who got chopped out at the start, and Lady Louisa were the last to finish Tangihou ran in the ownership of Mr. L. G M'Donald, a steward of the club, and son of the late Mr. J. R. M'Donald. The Porirua pair, Pavlova and Goldstream, were sent out first and second favourites. Combusti&n was saddled up again for the Moutere Hack Handicap, mating his last appearance in hack company. He was conceding his opponents a lot of weight. Ballyhar and Vladiean were prominent for half a. mile, where Combustion and Bronk Delaval joined in. They took part in a slashing finish, Mr. Hartgill being unable to separate them. On his form yesterday it is unlikely Bronk Delaval will make the next payment for the New Zealand Cup. Master Strowan, who was successful in steeplechase events at Marton and Otaki recently, proved his usefulness by winning the Ohau Hack Welter. The withdrawal of Sonite for all engagements at the A. J.C. Spring Meeting, which starts to-morrow, probably means that the Field Battery — Wish horse has failed to stand training ' The Trentham-trained horses Roumania and Rose Pink have been taken through to Napier for the meeting to be held there to-morrow. Montana and Botanist, who showed winning form at Otaki on Monday, are down to compete.
