DEATH OF MR. BURLING
Mr. George Arthur Burling, an old resident of Rikiorangi, and a Bon of the late Mr. Henry "Burling, the celebrated centenarian of Waikanae, died at Wellington on Sunday Mr Burling was born in London in 1838, and arrived in Wellington with hie parents iD the ship London, which reached port on 22nd March, 1840. After residing for three yeans near Wadestown. the family moved to the present site of Featherston, being the first white settlers in that quarter. With some other relations, the late Mr. Burling was encamped on the top of the Rimutaka Range at the time of the great earthquake, which damaged the road so severely that they had to leave the bullock team and walk into Wei lington In 1861 Mr. Burling began 6heep-farming, which occupation h< followed for some years at Waterfal 1 ' also- at Waikanae. In retired life lie resided at Aehhurst. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. Henry Burlins; The late Mr. Burling was married in 1861 to Miss Gooding, and leaves a widow, six sons and six daughter?, all of whom are married, also forty-cigrnt grandchildren and eight great-grandcnil-dren. The sons are: Mr. George Burling, Aurora Downs; Mt. Charles R. Burling, Tikaranonga, Pongarba; Mr. Henryx Burling, Fitzherbert ; Mr. Alfred Burling, Bay of Islands; Mr. Adam Burling, Ashhurst; and Mr. Len. Burling Waikanae ; and the daughters, Mrs. A. Napier, Alfredton; Mrs. W. Burling, Woodlands, Pongaroa.; Mrs. Arthur Small, Eketahuna; Mrs. W. Goodinjr, Western Lake 1 ; Mrs. W. Morris, Alfred* .tonu Mra.-J. Robbie^ JSKaJhofce*
