WELLINGTON RACING CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual general meeting of members of the Wellington Racing Club willbe held on the 30th inst. The stewards' report states that the three meetings, held by the club during the year ended 31st July, 1915, were very successful. The Winter Meeting had to be abandoned owing to the occupation of the racecourse buildings by the military authorities. This, of course, entailed a serious financial loss to the club which under the circumstances could not bo avoided. The surplus for the year has been absorbed by providing for depreciation of the club's buildings and plant. The new six, five, and four-furlong courses had been completed, and were 'used for the first time at the Summer Meeting. The stewards recorded with regret the death during the year of the i following members : — Messrs. S. Brown, ■ W. C. Gasquoine, A. Maguire, T. K. Macdonald, J. R. M'Donald, and J. H. Williams. The following office-bearers retire in accordance with the rules, and all are eligible for re-election :—President, Mr J. B. Harcourt; vice-presi-dent, Mr. C. P. Skerrett; stewards, Messrs. J. G. Duncan, Dr. H. A. H. Gilmer, Mr. Neil M'Lean, and Mr. Eric Riddiford. Nominations for office-bearers and notices of motion must be lodged at the . office of the club before 5 p.m. on Thursday, 16th inst. The Government tax od the three meetings held amounted to £6826 15s 8d; donation to war funds, etc., amounted to £1170; the sum of £18,800 was paid in .stakes"; salaries Amounted to £1487 13s ; maintenance and improvements, £2967 3s sd. Totalisator receipts amounted to £25.617 18s 2d ; gates, £4016 2s; railway, £3083 9s; members' subscriptions and entrance fees. £990 3s ; nominations and acceptance, £4857 ; privileges, race books, 'etc., £1194 5s 6d. Pte. Sydney P. Chapman, reported missing at Gailipoli. was formerly in the employ of Messrs. Briscoe and Co., Wellington, aud went to Samoa at the outbreak of the war.
