In this week's Gazette are published regulations governing tho payment of the Government capitation grants in aid of school libraries. Out of • funds appropriated by Parliament for tho purposes of school and class libraries in public schools there will be paid to each Education Board an annual capitation grant of 3d for each child in average attendance in the district during tho year preceding that for which the grant m made. The grant is to be utilised for the purpose of providing supplementary continuous readers sufficient in_ number for class reading by pupils in Classes P to S6 inclusive, and also for the purpose of supplying free class-books in necessitoue cases and in, oases where newly entered pupils have already purchased elsewhere class-books .different from those in use in the school. Supplementary readers and other class-books so provided are to be feuch only as are approved or sanctioned in accordance with the Act. Requests for the approval of class-book 6 other than those already on the approved list should be accompanied by oopies of the books. After provision has been made for the supply of the books above-mention-ed, the balance of the grant, if any, shall be spent, on books approved by the senior inspector for the district a« suitable for individual reading by the pupils in school or at home.
