Constable Charmer blushed, but, soon recovering her eelf-posseesion, ahe extracted two hat-pins from her helmet, and the prisoner yelled with pain and fury. Holding Muggins firmly on the hat-pins with one hand, the constable proceeded to do up her hair with the other hand, calling upon two women in the crowd, in the King's name, to assist her. This, they did by lending her a hand-mirror and some hairpins. Having adjusted -her helmet to the correct angle, with the help of the mirror, the constable vigorously shook Muggins, who all this, time liad been struggling wildly, and then, with a deft movement of hex neatly-gloved hand, knocked him down. Having placed an exceedingly small foot ' on th& ruffian's chest, Conetable, Ghaormer proceeded to search for the handcuffs, in her peggy-bag, but was. unabl& to find them. She had forgotten them or lost tiiem — she did not know which. Always cool and resourceful, Constable Charmer ordered six men, in the King's name, to go and find the handcuffs. They were still searching for them when this edition went to press."
