A NOTABLE CEREMONY
REMOVING DE LISLE'S REMAINS SPEECH BY THE FRENCH PRESIDENT. (Received July 15, 2 p.m.) PARIS, 14th July. Hundreds, of thousands of people thronged the streets when the remains of Rouget de Lisle were being transferred to the Hotel dcs Invalides. .Twenty-five aeroplanes were circling above as the coffin passed. At a given signal, all the troops from the Vosges to th© North Sea, forming an impenetrable barrier to the German invasion, sang "The Marseillaise" with astounding effect. President Poincare, _ speaking at_ the Hotel dcs Invalides, said : "We are innocent victims of a most brutal, savage, premeditated aggression, but since we have been compelled to draw the sword we have not the right ,to sheathe it before We have avenged our dead, before victory for the Allies permits Us to guard effectively against a periodical re. currence of provocations. Don't let our enemies deceive themselves: It, is not in order to sign a short truce before another terrible war that France has risen thrilled by 'The Marseillnise.'
