ANOMALIES IN SALARIES

"That the attention of the Minister for Education be drawn to the anomaly in tho salaries drawn by head teachers of Grade 111.8. Schools," was the subject of a remit from the Auckland branch of the Educational Institute. At to-day's meeting Mr. Dunlop, one of the Auckland delegates, while thoroughly sympathising with the teachers in that grade, urged that at a time like the present, when the Empire was at war", it would be a patriotic act on the part of the teaohers not to press for increases, and his motion for referring it to the executive was seconded by a delegate who belonged to the grade referred to. A lady delegate expressed an opinion that a large number of teachers, particularly in North Canterbury, had received no increases under the Act passed last session ; they were in a blind alley, and the Institute should endeavour to assist them. The general feeling o£ the meeting -was, however, averse to pressing for any increases of salaries at the present time.
