WAR LOAN
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN NECESSITY FOR ECONOMY WORKERS' INVESTMENTS. (By Telegraph,— Press Association.— Copyrltht.) LONDON, 27th June. Mr. Asquith will inaugurate a national campaign on behalf of the war loan in the Guildhall on Tuesday, at which the necessity to economise will be emphasised. Mr. R. M'Kenna, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has formed a Parliamentary War Savings Committee in the interests of national economy, and is arranging for meetings throughout the country. Many firms are adopting the suggestion to bank their employees' savings to enable them to purchase five shilling vouchers. Some are adding a bonus. The committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions is submitting a proposal to invest £20,000, and has also recommended members to purchase vouchers, and requested Mr. M'Kenna to facilitate trade union investments. The prizes at the Maidenhead School sports included vouchers. Though the response to the war loan is satisfactory, it is pointed out in some financial circles that the whole-hearted co-operation of all classes is needed to make the loan adequate to the year's expenditure. The Bank of England notifies that it is prepared to receive oversea applications, advices, with 5 per cent, deposit, to be received before 10th July.
