RUSSIANS IN GALICIA
DESPERATE FIGHTING ITALIAN ARMY'S SUCCESS REPORTED FALL OF GORZ THE CAPTURE OF METZERAL i TURKEY'S NEGOTIATIONS WITH BULGARIA FAIL
The best feature of the latest news is that the Russians have maintained the Galician positions almost completely aince the fall of Lemberg, and surprise at this has been expressed in Berlin. The great retirement involved no breaking of the Russian line, and according to a Petrograd report the losses suffered were insignificant compared (with those of the enemy. The Germans report having crossed the Dniester again near Zaravno, and also capturing ja position at Ravaruska. Numerous engagements have taken place in Poland, and there is a statement that heavy guns have been despatched to the Bzura for a new attack 'on Warsaw. The Italians report the arrival of enemy reinforcements iand the development of the campaign into a siege and ifcrench warfare. There is a report from Milan that the Important fortress of Gorz, on the Isonzo, has fallen. •The western front is comparatively quiet, and the iFrench offensive near Arras has been checked by storms. IThe enemy dropped many bombs upon Arras. There is a further message regarding the Socalists in [Germany and their propaganda in favour of peace. Bulgaria's relations with Turkey have failed, and those with the Entente are progressing. Turkey is reported to have evacuated 'Adrianople.
