BRISBANE, 25th June. ;; Obituary : Frederick Manson Bailey, F.L.S., Government Botanist. ■ [Mr. Bailey was the eminent Colonial • Botanist of Queensland, a position he "held since 1881. He was born in London in 1827, being a son of the late -John Bailey, first Colonial Botanist of •South Australia. The deceased gen"tiletnan arrived in South' Australia in 1839, and was engaged with his father for some years in nursery work in that colony, and before proceed;ing to Queensland in 1861 was for Over •three years fruitgrowing, farming, and 'dairying near Wellington. He was jcreated a C.M.G. in 1911 for his scienti•fic services. He was the author of , " Handbook to the Ferns of Queensland," " The Flora of Queensland," and "The Fern World of Australia." His only son is Mr. John F Bailey, Director of the Botanic Gardens at Brisbane.]
