TURKS IN SYRIA
ONLY 11,000 LEFT. CAIRO, 24th June. Travellers from Syria state that there are only 11,000 troops now in the province. ' The rest have been sent to the Dardanelles. continues to rid himself of German ofii- - cers. It is estimated that there are between three and four thousand German officers and n.c.o.'s at Constantinople and Gallipoli. Wounded soldiers from Gallipoli narrate that there was an heroic fight by nineteen of the Munstqis on sth June. The Turks surprised them while un« Buspectingly watching the warships' bombardment. The Ministers refused to surrender, and fought like demons, using their bayonets whenever the Turks approached. When assistance came, 70 dead Turks were found, and the number of wounded is unknown. Eleven of the Munsters were killed and four wounded.
