ACTIONS AT MANY POINTS HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT The High Commissioner reports':— LONDON, 23rd June, 5.15 p.m. The Germans attempted a fresh counter-attack at the Neuville cemetery and the "Labyrinth"; it was completely repulsed. West of the Argonne, Ttgsw the ißinarville Vienne-le Chateauroad, 'there is fighting in the communication trenches with hand-grenades. On the rest of the Argonne front the Germans have consumed a. large quantjty of munitions in an infantry attack. On the heights of the Meuse, at the Calonne trench, the Frpnch reconquered in the evening a fresh part of the second German line. In Lorraine, German new counter-at-tacks against the positions taken near Leinfcrey were repulsed. The French maintained their gains, taking prisoners. In La Fontenelle, in the region of Ban de Sapt, the enemy gained a footing in the evening af ter some hours ; they fired nearly 4000 shells; and" advanced on the French work along a 200-metre front. They also attacked neighbouring trenches. The German offensive was promptly checked by a brilliantly-exe-cuted counter-attack. The lost ground was almost entirely recaptured, the enemy only succeeding in retaining the extremity of the work. The- French took 142 prisoners. In the Fecht region, the French occupied Sondernach, pushing their line to the slopes on the east of the villiage. LONDON, 24th June, 2.50 a.m. In the region north, of Arras some infantry actions have been fought. .North of Souchez the French made slight progress and repulsed a German counter-attack. Near Berry-au-bac the French exploded a mine, very seriously damaging German trenches. In the Champagne, the struggle of mines and violent cannonade continue. On the heights of the Meuse of, Calonne trench, theeneiny violently counter-attacked, retaking their former second line. Later another German attack was stopped. The French, taking the offensive again, set foot on the enemy's second line. In Lorraine the French gained possession of two works near Leintrey.
