A TROTTING PROTEST
CHRISTCHURCH, 24th June. 'A special meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association was held to-day. The business of the meeting was consideration of an appeal lodged by G. Leggatt, ownei- of the hor&e Flake Cut, agamst the decision of the stewards of the South Wairarapa Trotting Club in disqualifying his horse foi- the/ President's Handicap at the club's meeting oh 3rd June, on the grounds that he had started before his proper time. The case submitted by the club included the evidence of the starter that Flake Cut liad st&rted before his bell, and his driver had been Called off the track twice, but had continued in the race. The starter, however, had not informed the judge of this fact, and Flake Cut's number had been posted a^j the winner. The board decided, after brief consultation, that the question, was one of fact, and therefore no decision could lie. The question as to whether appellant's deposit of £10 should be refunded or not and other points connected with the case were deferred till the next meeting of the board.
